What is ECWCS and where does the Level 7 fit in?
ECWCS (Extended Cold Weather Clothing System) is a multilayer protective clothing system developed for the U.S. Armed Forces. Its purpose is to enable operations in extreme weather – from chilly days to arctic temperatures. Each layer has a specific role: moisture wicking, insulation, wind and snow protection. Level 7 is the outermost layer – responsible for thermal insulation and heat retention in the harshest conditions. Its mission is to provide maximum protection when all other layers are no longer enough.
A military jacket for serious temperatures
Tested in extreme cold, the Level 7 is field-proven. The Climashield® Apex™ synthetic insulation is thicker than in lighter jackets like the Wolfhound series. Instead of the standard 67 g/m², Level 7 uses 100 g/m², providing outstanding warmth even in challenging conditions – and even when wet. The ripstop outer fabric resists wind and light rain, while maintaining the breathability you need on the move.
